Cafe 88 (also known as 88 Juice & More) has a clean and bright interiour and a considerable amount of seating. A variety of classical music pieces was the choice of background music. Overall, I found the atmosphere to be close to what you find in a typical diner.
As we arrived on a Sunday around noon, most of the seats were still available. We did not have to wait to be seated.
We only waited 10 minutes for our dishes after ordering.
The breakfast menu contained a variety of Bennies, Omelettes, Toasts and Salads. I opted for the classic Eggs Benedict (CAD 10) and my partner chose the Eggs Florentine (CAD 12). As drinks we had coffee and water.
My Eggs Benedict arrived with a side of pan fried potatoes, mushrooms and aubergine. The Bennies were situated on the outer corners of the oval dish, with the potatoes and mushrooms/aubergines placed between them. I would say it looked quite nice.
Now to the tasting: The sauce hollandaise was kind of oily and so were the potatoes and mushrooms. The eggs on the other hand were cooked well, a bit runny, but not too soft. Overall, the dish seemed to be made of not quite fresh items and cooked with too much oil. The size of the dish was well proportioned. The coffee tasted a bit watery and could have been stronger.
My partner's Eggs Florentine (which is essentially Eggs Benedict with spinach instead of ham) had basically the same setting as my dish. The potatoes were not as oily as mine, but the mushrooms tasted as if they had been preserved before cooking, which confirms my suspicion mentioned above. The eggs were medium cooked, runny but not too soft. The meal's size was essentially the same as mine: well proportioned.
The waitress, which seems to be one of the owners as well, was very friendly and responsive.
The average price from the breakfast menu is about CAD 10.
