Cafe Luxy has a small and cozy store front, just as one might imagine a typical bistro to appear. A large part of the street side exterior can be opened if temperatures allow for it. The interior is very clean, has very comfortable lighting and well arranged seating, including several rows of tables, 3 small and cozy booths and a bar.
When busy, one will have to wait to be seated but at Sunday noon we were able to seat ourselves at the table of our choice. We choose one of the 3 small booths, right beside a huge mirror wall, that adds depth and virtual space to the establishment.
The time between ordering and receiving the dishes was only 13 minutes.
The menu offered a wide range of breakfast items from scrambled eggs and bacon to omelettes, Eggs Benedict and bagels. I chose the Four Cheese Omelette (CAD 9.98) and my collaborator had the Seafood Benny (CAD 9.98). As drinks we had coffee and water.
My dish's setting was well arranged, with sides of pan fried potatoes, fruits and toast and a variety of jams, honey and peanut butter. It had just the right temperature as it arrived and tasted deliciously cheesy (yes, I just said this, but I meant it in the good way, it is a four cheese omelette after all), light and fresh. The potatoes had a slightly crunchy exterior with a soft interior and the fruits were fresh and juicy. The size of the dish seemed overwhelming at first, but because of its lightness, it felt just right at the end.
The Seafood Benny was very warm, the eggs were soft but not too runny and the toppings tasted fresh. The dish was well put together, nothing seemed out of place and created a very enjoyable assemble. The sides included pan fried potatoes and various fruits that had the same taste and freshness as described above. The dish size was well proportioned, not too much and not too little.
The staff was friendly and caring and seemed to have an eye for when a customer needed service before a request was even made. This is one rare treat which ensures that the customers can concentrate on their food and company they are with, instead of having the constant feeling of being watched and annoyed by waiters inquiring about the customers well being every 3 minutes. Our waiter asked us once about how we like the food or if we require any more coffee. On a request for hot water, our waiter suggested the addition of a slice of lemon. To sum up: that was one of the best experiences I ever had with restaurant staff.
Prices range from 6 to 12 CAD, with an average of 10 CAD for Bennies as well as Omelettes.
